The role entails a crucial medical position for care delivery to inpatients and outpatients within the Trust’s area. The post holder will develop a specialized interest aligned with existing consultants, including areas like Bowel Cancer Screening, Upper GI cancer, and more. They will strengthen local Gastrointestinal services, partake in audits, training, and maintain clinical excellence. Responsibilities include contributing to a seven-day Bleeding Service and endoscopy provision at RLI, with a rotating schedule. No participation in the GIM on-call rota is required.
Main Duties of the Role :
Upon appointment, specific clinical responsibilities will be assigned collaboratively with the post holder. Alongside consultant colleagues, the post holder will ensure patient care aligns with best practices. Key expectations include:
- Collaborating with existing Gastroenterology Consultants to enhance Gastrointestinal services across the hospital.
- Facilitating strong communication with GPs and the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT).
- Managing administrative duties for patient care and departmental operations in conjunction with colleagues.
- Ensuring meticulous record keeping and documentation.
- Providing transparent and effective medical leadership to foster a motivated, integrated MDT team.
- Establishing robust communication systems among patients, caregivers, nursing staff, allied health professionals, volunteers, MDT, and hospital teams.
- Cultivating an environment of openness and honesty.

Education and qualifications :
Essential
- Full registration with GMC and MRCP or an equivalent qualification.
- Entry on the Specialist Register or obtaining CCT within six months of the interview (Gastroenterology and General Medicine).
- Clinical training and experience matching the criteria for acquiring a (UK) CCT in Gastroenterology and General (Internal) Medicine.
- JAG accreditation for upper and lower diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.
Desirable :
Higher degree (MD, PhD) Specialist interest and expertise
