PE Global is currently recruiting for a Networks Planner for an initial 12-month contract remote role.

Position Description
Network Planners are responsible for the design of the electricity Distribution Network to ensure it meets customer needs, and can enable Ireland’s transition to a low carbon energy future. This includes design of customer connections for large demand customers and electricity generators, as well as the overall design and reinforcement of the Distribution Network to support current and future needs at all scales of use.

The role involves the analysis of HV, 38kV, and MV Distribution Networks to determine the optimum method of connection for new customers, optimal line diversion solutions, and optimal system improvements. As well as ensuring technical suitability of the plan, projects must be designed within the applicable commercial and regulatory requirements and frameworks. This requires the Planner to take ownership of driving the Plan.

Planners work closely with other functions in the design and delivery of Network plans. They must also liaise with customers, the transmission system operator, and other stakeholders toensure development is well founded, and meets requirements.

Key Responsibilities
 Ensure connection applications are processed in line with CRU-approved policies and ESBN Distribution Planning and Security of Supply Standards;
 Carry out studies, both desktop and site-based, to determine Least Cost Technically Acceptable (LCTA) connection methods for new demand or generation customers;
 Develop appropriate Network reinforcement plans to accommodate future development;
 Utilise load flow software (Synergi, Sincal, Power Factory and others) to determine connection methods and suitability of various connection and reinforcement options;
 Complete Investment Appraisals and Technical Approval documents, and present these at governance boards;
 Be the Customer’s interface point within Planning and attend new business customer meetings with Commercial/Delivery teams as required;
 Be the interface point on TSO (Transmission System Operator) interactions for connection agreements for new customer stations;
 Assess the impact of new loads with a disturbing aspect on existing networks and make recommendations to mitigate the impact;
 Build and maintain strong relationships with relevant Area and Divisional Managers to ensure that they are aware of new customers, 20kV plans, line diversions or system improvement plans in their regions of responsibility;
 Stakeholder engagements with Internal staff and external bodies;
 Prepare statistics on network performance, briefings or FOI requests as required by internal or external stakeholders;
 Contribute to the ongoing development and revision of Planning Standards used within the team, and develop the plans used to support lower level customer connections planned within the regional divisions.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
 Prior experience in a Network Planning role;
 Knowledge and experience of electrical network engineering;
 Good broad understanding of Distribution Network technologies, sufficient to assess the suitability of configurations for proposed connections;
 A commercial mind-set with effective analytical skills and ability to present clear plans and the associated decision making process;
 Ability to build models, use a wide range of analytical tools and software, and adopt new tools and methods as required;
 Ability to act independently and take initiative to develop proposals, seeking feedback as required;
 Strong teamwork skills;
 High level of commitment and excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate complex issues both to specialists and to non-experts;
 Ability to understand and make decisions based on the relationships between financial, safety, and technical risks.

Desirable
 Can prepare Investment Appraisal documents setting out the drivers and methodology for assessing suitability and
preference of technical and financial options using defined criteria;
 Proven experience of analysing networks using modelling software to determine network parameters under various conditions;
 Can perform financial analysis using lifetime cost projections for various connection proposals and network reinforcement proposals.

Qualifications
Essential
Either 3rd Level Electrical Engineering qualification or equivalent work experience is essential.
