Position Description
The HV Substations Delivery department in Networks Engineering & Major Projects are responsible for the design of high voltage transmission and distribution substations assets for our networks. This includes both conceptual and detailed engineering design, design safety management, project programming and commercial management. Collaboration with a range stakeholders is a key function of this role including EMP Networks Project Delivery, our Delivery partners and other external delivery services.
The Senior Team Leader (STL) is responsible for the management of:
- A Substation delivery design team
- The processes and systems required to meet design teams working with Networks Project Delivery and Networks Customer Delivery
The STL is responsible for the forecasting, resourcing, work integration, quality assurance and auditing of the team deliverables. The STL will co-ordinate the implementation of current and new standards with all the relevant stakeholders in Networks Project Delivery. The STL is responsible for the day-to-day management of the substation design team to carry out role of Lead Engineer on the portfolio of projects.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Team Leader is required to:
- Lead the substation design team to deliver high-quality designs and safety coordination across a diverse portfolio of electricity transmission and distribution development projects.
- Manage HV Project design support associated with internal and external project delivery models (EPC & D&B)
- Establish and maintain HV Projects substation template designs and libraries
- Manage project coordination of external framework designers
- Develop and implement plans to improve and standardise the HVP processes and incorporate feedback from project reviews and lessons learned.
- Undertake the role of Lead Engineer as required, managing HV project design support across both internal delivery teams and external project delivery models.
- Provide leadership and technical guidance to team members in all aspects of the project conception, technical scoping, technical costing, commercial aspects (including customer and renewable connections), design, project programming (including design, construction, test and inspection,) design review, training, development, mentoring and interfacing with clients.
- Provide the day-to-day management of specialist work streams and the approval of all the key work outputs.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Essential
- A minimum of Seven years’ experience in substation design.
- Proven ability to work in a team to a high level of performance.
- A strong understanding of all elements of substation tendering and tender evaluations, scoping, planning, design, costing, construction and commissioning.
- A strong work ethic with a clear focus on delivery to our safety, time, quality and cost objectives.
- Strong commercial and project management capability.
- The demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
- A flexible approach to work, especially where necessary to delivery excellent customer service.
- Excellent communication and report writing skills.
- A proven track record of success contributing to the training and development of technical professionals.
- Strong stakeholder management skills
Desirable
- Knowledge of PSDP process
- Precommissioning experience
Qualifications
- Either 3rd Level Electrical Engineering qualification or equivalent work experience is essential
Base Location
This role is based in the Cork Office in Eastgate business Park, Little Island but travel to project locations as required, is a key requirement of the role.
Hybrid working will be a feature of this role, combining remote working with attendance at base for in-person collaboration at a minimum of 2 days per week, subject to ongoing review.
Please note that when the successful candidate is required to attend our offices at Eastgate business Park, Little Island, travel, accommodation, and related expenses will not be reimbursed.
Expenses incurred for business travel – that are not normally incurred by the successful candidate in their normal place of work – will be reimbursed.
All travel and accommodation expenses shall be agreed in advance with the line manager. Claims for reimbursement of approved receipts must be via the contractor’s agency.
Mileage rates in respect of journeys carried out will not apply.
Safety
Contractors must comply with all Health and Safety Regulations and requirements pertaining to the location where they are working and must comply with all directions and instructions from their designated line management.
- Contractors shall wear full PPE, including Arc-resistant where required.
- Steel toe boots compliant with S3 EN ISO 20345.
- Safepass and manual handling training
- Contractors shall be provided with an unbranded hard hat and ear defenders where required.
- This PPE will be provided by our suppliers but without any identifiable Logo.
- The PPE to be provided by us does not include safety boots, gloves and eye protection. These are standard items that contractors should have at their cost.
- Contractors must have up to date SafePass and manual handling training.
Other Requirements
The successful candidate must have use of a personal ‘phone, laptop/PC and internet facilities, and must be equipped to fully engage in a professional manner during the course of the engagement.
