Ophthalmic Healthcare Assistant (Part-Time)

We are seeking an Ophthalmic Healthcare Assistant to join the multidisciplinary eye care team within HSE Primary Care Services. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a healthcare professional to enter or further develop a career in ophthalmic care. Previous ophthalmic experience is desirable, but full on-site training will be provided to a suitable candidate.

Duration: 6-month fixed term with a possibility to extend 
Start Date: Mid-January 2026

Key Responsibilities:

• Acting as the first point of contact for patients

• Performing visual field testing using the Humphrey Visual Field Analyser

• Assisting at Community Eye Service clinics under clinician supervision

• Carrying out preliminary eye examinations and diagnostic testing

• Supporting ophthalmologists and orthoptists during clinics and procedures

• Ensuring safe use, hygiene, and maintenance of ophthalmic equipment
