We are currently recruiting a Senior Psychologist to join a specialist Multidisciplinary Pain Management Service within Sligo University Hospital. 

The successful candidate will deliver high-quality psychological assessment, intervention, and therapeutic support to adults experiencing chronic pain, working as part of an established, collaborative multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Provide specialist psychological assessment, formulation, and evidence-based intervention for adults with chronic pain–related psychological distress.

  • Deliver both individual and group-based interventions, contributing to the design and evaluation of group programmes.

  • Carry a varied clinical caseload with autonomy and professional responsibility across assessment, treatment, and discharge planning.

  • Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure integrated case planning and coordinated service delivery.

  • Offer clinical supervision to Psychology staff and trainee psychologists.

  • Participate in research, audit, and service development aligned with Sláintecare objectives.

  • Contribute to clinical governance, mandatory training, and continuous professional development.

  • Engage in teaching, consultation, and training for staff and external partners as required.

Essential Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Hold a recognised Honours Degree in Psychology (QQI Level 8 equivalent).

  • Hold a recognised postgraduate professional qualification in Clinical, Counselling, or Educational Psychology (or equivalent validated by the Department of Health).

  • Have a minimum of 5 years’ post-graduate experience, including at least 2 years post-qualification.

  • Have the required 60 days of supervised clinical placement/work experience in the relevant psychology settings (as per qualification type).

  • Demonstrate experience providing psychological assessment and intervention for adults with chronic pain.

  • Demonstrate experience in the development and delivery of group-based interventions.

  • Possess the clinical knowledge, professional values, and communication skills required for senior practice.

  • Have access to transport for service delivery requirements.

Additional Information

  • This is a 12-month temporary post aligned with the Sláintecare Pain Management initiative.

  • Appointment is subject to satisfactory references, occupational health clearance, and Garda vetting.

  • The role is governed by HSE employment, training, and CPD requirements.
