An established and growing engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its Cork-based team on a permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated mechanical engineer with strong HVAC design experience to play a key role in the delivery of large-scale commercial, industrial, pharmaceutical, and mission-critical projects.

The successful candidate will lead mechanical building services design activities from concept through to project delivery, working closely with multidisciplinary teams and clients across a range of high-profile projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and coordination of mechanical building services systems with a strong focus on HVAC design.
  • Prepare detailed mechanical design calculations, specifications, drawings, and technical reports.
  • Develop HVAC system concepts including heating, cooling, ventilation, air conditioning, and associated plant systems.
  • Coordinate with electrical, architectural, structural, and external design teams throughout project lifecycle.
  • Attend client meetings, design reviews, and technical workshops.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant Irish, UK, and international standards and regulations.
  • Support project delivery teams during procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover phases.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers and contribute to technical development within the team.
  • Assist in the preparation of tender documentation and technical submissions.
  • Manage project deliverables to meet agreed timelines and budgets.

Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 6+ years’ experience in mechanical design engineering within building services or consultancy environments.
  • Strong HVAC design experience is essential.
  • Experience working on commercial, pharmaceutical, industrial, healthcare, or data centre projects is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Hevacomp, IES, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems design, energy efficiency, and sustainability principles.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
  • Chartered status or progress toward chartership would be advantageous.
