Summary
The purpose of this role is to lead and strengthen the Infectious Diseases service at HMC, aligned with the organization’s strategy for high quality specialized care, academic excellence, and clinical advancement. The Senior Consultant provides expert clinical leadership in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of complex infectious diseases, including emerging infections, antimicrobial resistant organisms, and infections in immunocompromised patients.
Education/Qualifications Required:
Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
- Basic medical degree from recognized institution
- Post-qualification certification
- Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand
- USA: The American Board of Infectious Diseases
- Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (FRACPC – Infectious Diseases)
- UK and Ireland: CCT/CCST/CESR and joined Specialty Register of Infectious Diseases
- Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP) in Infectious Diseases
- Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above in Infectious Diseases
Experience Post-Qualifications:
- Minimum six (6) years of experience
Job Responsibilities/Duties:
- Provide senior clinical leadership in Infectious Diseases across HMC facilities.
- Diagnose and manage complex infectious diseases including multidrug resistant organisms, opportunistic infections, transplant related infections, and emerging pathogens.
- Lead inpatient and outpatient infectious diseases consultations to support timely, evidence based clinical decisions.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings including critical care, oncology, transplant, microbiology, and infection prevention forums.
- Advise clinical teams on antimicrobial selection, stewardship strategies, diagnostic testing, and follow up management.
- Oversee and strengthen antimicrobial stewardship programs to promote appropriate antibiotic use and reduce resistance trends.
- Lead quality improvement initiatives using audit data, antimicrobial utilization reports, infection rates, and incident trends.
- Support infection prevention and control programs in collaboration with microbiology and hospital epidemiology teams.
- Ensure compliance with HMC policies, patient safety standards, and international accreditation requirements.
- Contribute to service development, workforce planning, and strategic growth of Infectious Diseases services in line with HMC objectives.
- Supervise, mentor, and assess consultants, fellows, residents, and junior doctors within the academic health system.
- Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate education, structured training programs, and competency assessments.
- Support research, clinical audits, and scholarly activity aligned with HMC academic priorities.
- Participate in accreditation surveys, internal inspections, and regulatory reviews.
- Maintain licensure, CPD requirements, and professional standards in line with HMC and national regulations.
- Collaborate with departmental leadership and cross specialty teams to strengthen service delivery and improve patient outcomes.
