The Nurse Clinician provides a broad range of high-quality professional nursing care to Critical Care patients. Utilizing the Nursing Process, the focus is on direct patient care and related activities, with guidance from the Lippincott Manual and Mosby Competencies. The Nurse Clinician delivers professional care under the supervision of the Charge Nurse and Supervisor. Work is performed on any required shift in the Critical Care Section, with hours assigned based on operational needs, including on-call and scheduled overtime. Direction is provided by the unit manager.

Daily duties include assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care plans for patients and their families. The Nurse Clinician also supports the orientation and integration of new hires and nursing staff into the unit. Routine collaboration with physicians includes carrying out physician orders, assisting with medical procedures, and reporting changes in patient condition. Ongoing communication with the Charge Nurse ensures updates on patient progress and changes in the care plan. The Nurse Clinician also works with technical and other support services to manage direct patient care, patient flow, and unit maintenance.

Occasionally, the Nurse Clinician engages with the public and community to communicate policy changes, revisions, or the introduction of new work rules. There is also occasional interaction with other JHAH personnel and external services.
