Locum Consultant Histopathologist

We’re seeking applicants for a 10PA Locum Consultant Histopathologist role to join our team of 8 consultants. This temporary position aims to fill a permanent role within 6-12 months. Candidates must have a medical qualification, full/specialist registration, and a valid GMC licence, or be eligible for registration within six months of the interview. Fellowship with the Royal College of Pathologists or equivalent is preferred. Both those with and without subspecialty interests are encouraged to apply. Part-time applications for personal reasons are welcome.

Job Description :

  • This locum consultant position is designed to eventually fill a permanent post within 6-12 months. The role involves participating in a medical staff rota to ensure safe and best practice in reporting a designated type of specimen relevant to the subspecialty. A preference for Breast pathology is beneficial.
  • The post includes urgent reporting from surgical clinics and requires involvement in special cellular pathology services at the recognized Cancer Centre.
  • Supervision and teaching of junior medical staff, along with optional participation in the coroner’s post-mortem service rota and/or registrar supervision in post-mortem examination, are integral to the role.
  • The post holder is expected to engage in the Regional EQA Scheme for histopathology, the CPD scheme of Pathologists, and suitable specialist EQA Schemes related to their designated areas of responsibility.
  • The department is well-equipped with automated processors and immunostainers, accommodating a broad range of immunochemistry with the possibility of considering new antibodies.
  • Audit facilities and study leave funding are available.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • FRCPath or equivalent
  • Full registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or Process of GMC. 

Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of thorough training in Histopathology and Cytopathology
  • Participation in appropriate EQA schemes

Research and Training

Essential

  • Experience of and willingness to participate in teaching at pathologist and BMS level. Knowledge of principles of Clinical Supervision and Educational Supervision
  • Evidence of experience of / commitment to audit and improving clinical practice/service development
