PE Global is currently recruiting for a Lead Instrumentation Engineer on behalf of our biopharmaceutical client based in Dublin. This is an initial 12-month contract hybrid role.

This role requires 3-days’ onsite in Dublin each week.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Director Automation and Control Systems Hardware the Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Lead Engineer ensures the technical design of instrumentation and control system hardware for the Process Automation System, Building Automation System and Vendor Packaged PLC/SCADA/HMI systems for the Sterile Drug Product (SDP) facility are reliable and robust. The I&C Engineer works closely with other resources such as automation engineers, electrical team, projects team as well as other internal resources & external engineers.

Key Responsibilities

 Lead design engineer for Instrumentation and Control Systems hardware which includes field devices and instrumentation up to and including control panels and industrial Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs).

 System responsibility includes the DeltaV Process Automation System, Building Automation System, Vendor Package and Stick Built PLC/SCADA/HMI equipment in both process and utility areas.

 Contributes to the design of network architecture drawings for site automation systems.

 Actively participates in the creation, review and approval of I&C project deliverables such as specifications, design documents, drawings and calculations, Factory Acceptance Test documents and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as required.

 Supports the technical delivery of I&C and Automation Hardware systems as endorsed by leadership team to meet business and process objectives.

 Responsible for ensuring communication of field devices and instrumentation to the relevant automation system controllers.

 Assures all design & project work is completed in compliance with all regulatory requirements including, Quality (GMP), EHS, Global Engineering, design & construction directives, requirements & procedures, as well as all Local regulatory requirements.

 Supports the project manager on schedule and budget development and control.

 Gathers input and coordinates with project team, site or Global Engineering representatives to develop requirements.

 Participate in the turnover process to ensure compliance with standards.

 Contributes to a high performance culture by recognising and resolving issues as they arise.

 Responsible for regular communication to project leadership & multi-functional team stakeholders. 

Qualifications & Experience

 Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or a related engineering field or its equivalent.

 At least 7 years experience providing Instrumentation and control systems hardware solutions to manufacturing organisations in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries.

 Strong experience in the design of control system network architectures for systems such as process automation systems or building automation systems for a biotechnology facility.

 Experience of control panel design for DetlaV, Siemens DesigoCC and PLC systems.

 Knowledge of safety requirements for control panel design e.g. Arc Flash.

 Experience of the design and installation of industrial networks such as Ethernet IP, ProfiNet, Profibus as well as classic I/O (4-20mA & 24VDC).

 Demonstrated understanding of engineering documentation such as P&IDs, Process Flow Diagrams and Standard Operating Procedures.

 Thorough knowledge of cGMP requirements particularly as it applies to Sterile Drug Product manufacturing.

 Strong experience with vendor packaged automation equipment including Rockwell and Siemens PLC platforms.

 Ability to keep work pace and meet deadlines. Good organising and planning skills.

 Strong communication skills. Problem solver with a focus on achievement of overall project goals.

 Proven success working well in a team environment.

 Ability to work independently and remotely with minimum direct supervision

 Ability to anticipate, evaluate and resolve multiple, simultaneous project issues, delays and problems by utilising technical and project management expertise.
