Looking for Specialty Doctor in Haematology for a 12-month fixed-term, part-time position.

Job Description: The successful candidate will work within a friendly and comprehensive clinical haematology department, primarily in haematology outpatients. They will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team, including consultants, registrars, specialty doctors, clinical nurse specialists, and advanced nurse practitioners, to deliver a wide range of clinical and laboratory services. Responsibilities encompass various aspects of haematology, including malignant conditions, autologous stem-cell transplants, red cell disorders, and thrombosis/haemostasis services.

Requirements : The ideal candidate should hold a basic medical qualification (e.g. MBBS or equivalent), be fully registered with the GMC, and preferably hold membership with the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) or equivalent. Some prior experience and competence in clinical haematology are expected.

Location : Exeter, a historic County Town with a magnificent Cathedral, is situated in the heart of the South West of England. 

Job responsibilities :

The primary aim of this appointment is to enhance the quality of care offered to patients in the Haematology department.

This position encompasses 10PAs, with 8 devoted to direct clinical responsibilities and 2 for supporting activities and continuous professional development (CPD). The Clinical Director of Pathology will conduct an annual appraisal, subject to approval by the Medical Director.

The primary objective of this role is to provide support to the 6 permanent consultants. Responsibilities include overseeing haemato-oncology patients attending the day chemotherapy unit, managing outpatient clinics, and offering coverage for the haematology specialist registrar.

The post-holder’s duties will involve performing bone marrow biopsy procedures, evaluating blood film and bone marrow morphology, and delivering clinical and laboratory haematology consultations.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

  • Essential:
    • MB ChB or an acceptable equivalent.
    • Registration with the GMC (General Medical Council).
    • Evidence of prior training in haematology.
    • Possession of MRCP (Membership of the Royal College of Physicians) or an equivalent qualification.

Knowledge:

  • Essential:
    • Proficiency in Health & Safety and Clinical Governance principles.
    • Capability to instruct and educate other healthcare professionals.

Experience:

  • Essential:
    • Previous experience in clinical haematology.
    • Proficiency in clinically evaluating and managing patients, including forming differential diagnoses and initiating appropriate treatment plans.
    • Previous exposure to laboratory haematology.
    • Minimum of four years of full-time postgraduate training.

Skills:

  • Essential:
    • Strong organizational skills, adaptability, and the ability to fulfill responsibilities within a multidisciplinary team.
    • Effective at organizing, prioritizing, and planning individual and team work.
    • Proficiency in Health & Safety and Clinical Governance practices.
