Main duties of the job

We are seeking a dedicated individual to become a valued member of our team. This role, which includes on-call responsibilities, involves performing clinical duties across our various locations. The individual in this position will play a crucial role in supporting the Urology services provided by the Trust and ensuring the delivery of the highest standard of care to our local community.

The post holder will also have the opportunity to participate in medical audits and ongoing medical education, focusing on self-development and maintaining professional accreditation. Additionally, regular appraisals will be conducted by the lead responsible for these services to foster professional growth.

Job responsibilities

Successful candidate will have a primary responsibility to one of the six Urology Consultants, which will rotate on a scheduled basis. Their key responsibilities will include:

  1. Delivering a comprehensive outpatient service, including assistance in new patient clinics and follow-up clinics under the guidance of their assigned consultant.
  2. Providing high-quality patient care through peri-operative visits and ward rounds, actively supporting their designated consultant during surgical procedures.
  3. Participating in the SAS grade on-call roster, with a 1:6 frequency.
  4. Taking a leading role in the clinical management of patients, ensuring their well-being and optimal care.
  5. Practicing effective handover of patient care to ensure seamless transitions.
  6. Completing patient summaries within 24 hours of anticipated discharge for all admissions.
  7. Engage in weekly multidisciplinary team meetings, which involves preparing and presenting cases during the weekly cancer multidisciplinary team gathering.
  8. Participate in clinical audits and showcase evidence-based practice when applicable.
  9. Play a role in the advancement of services within specific areas of interest and expertise.
  10. Actively partake in ongoing medical education. Complete personal appraisals and job planning as part of the revalidation process.

Person Specification

Essential / Desirable

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice MRCS or evidence of working towards MRCS or an equivalent appropriate higher surgical qualification
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary environment Well-developed communication skills Experience of supervising junior medical staff. Evidence of leadership skills

Desirable

  • FRCS (Urol) or FEBU
  • Experience of Urology at specialty doctor or registrar level.
